The Town of Holden Beach has applied for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance (PA) Program funding through the North Carolina Emergency Management (NCEM) as a sub-recipient. This project is for restoration of engineered beach in the Town of Holden Beach, damaged due to storm surge during Tropical Storm Michael. The Town of Holden Beach plans to restore the facility back to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity within the existing footprint. The repairs include replacing 389,304 CY of engineered beach at the Central Reach portion of the beach. The Town of Holden Beach plans to dredge and pipe sand for this project from an approved and permitted offshore sand borrow site, simultaneously with beach restoration from Hurricane Florence. We will also renew state and federal environmental permits from a previous project and prepare a maintenance plan for the engineered beach site. The project will minimize the impact of floods on human health, safety, or welfare while providing beach stabilization in the project area.
