Board of Commissioners
January 23, 2024 Meeting Recap
A regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners was held on January 23, 2024. The following actions were taken:
- Chief Dixon reviewed the Police Report. He advised people to beware of credit card and gift card scams.
- Inspections Director Evans gave the Inspections Department monthly report.
- The Board scheduled a public hearing on proposed changes to Holden Beach Code of Ordinances Section 157.083 Accessory Structures and Section 157.006 Definitions for Tuesday, February 20th at 5:00 p.m.
- The Board approved a schedule for special meeting dates.
- Richardson Construction was chosen to construct a walkway at 441 Ocean Boulevard West. This project is part of a grant received from the Division of Coastal Management. A Hatteras ramp is also included in the project and will be installed by the Town. This will provide public beach and emergency vehicle access to the beach.
- The Board discussed how to move forward with the Holden Beach Pier Project. The Town will engage with Bowman Murray Hemingway Architects to schedule a public input session in order to collect public opinion on the existing pier plans.
- The Board requested that Right Angle Engineering do an assessment on the condition of the HB Pavilion.
- The Board tasked the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board to work with Pinnacle Architecture to develop a new site plan for Block Q that includes a concert space with a dance floor, the planned ADA compliant bathrooms, green space, and other potential amenities, to include boat trailer and car parking.
- Mayor Pro Tem Myers was selected to serve on the Audit Committee. Mary Vail Ware and Tim Throndson were selected to fill vacancies on the committee.
- Resolution 24-01 was adopted. The resolution updated existing bank signature cards and designated the assistant town manager as the deputy finance officer.
